A land known for its silks, spices and sandalwood, Karnataka adds up as an experience to remember.....
The religious fervor of Karnataka is evident in the number of temples here that are living....
Sitting imperiously on the southern side of Indian mainland, Karnataka borders with rest of the three states of South India. The state possesses one of the most gifted hill stations with ravishing beaches to cloud covering mountains and the most glorious history in Southern India. With rich heritage and diverse culture, Karnataka offers you, what others just boast of. Karnataka has its share of several lesser-known hill stations. Each has its own unique charm, like views from vantage points, sandalwood forest, coffee and spice plantations, trekking trails, waterfalls, and wildlife. Nestled in the Western Ghats, they present spectacular views of dense forests, deep valleys and magnificent sunsets. The popular hill stations of the state are as follows:

 Nandi Hills
This Popular weekend getaway is just 60 kms from Bangalore. The bracing air and serene environs of Nandi Hills, perched at a height of 1455 m above sea level, provided Tipu Sultan and the British with an idyllic summer retreat. Here, you can take leisurely strolls or experience the spine chilling thrills of paragliding. Two ancient temples dedicated to Lord Shiva grace the hill, one at the foot and the other at the peak. Marvel at their exquisite architecture and sculpture. Nandi Hills shot into prominence during the visits of Queen Elizabeth II in the sixties and the heads of SAARC countries in the eighties.

 Kermana Gundi
Kermana Gundi is one of the exceptionally beautiful Hill stations, and one of the best Trekking spots amidst lush Green Forests. Kermana Gundi is also called K.R. Hills. This idyllic hill station is situated in the Tarikere Taluk of Chikmaglur district. This place is 257 kms. From Bangalore. Located on the Baba- Budan range, this hamlet is an ideal escape from the dins of urban cities.

 Madikeri
Mandikeri is the picturesque capital of Coorg, the land of coffee, cardamom, colonels, charming women and the Cauvery. Here, time seems to have stopped. Dotted with a cluster of red-roofed dwellings and a bustling bazaar, the town situated at an elevation of 1525 m, has a charming old-world look. The 19th century Madikeri Fort with its stone ramparts now houses the prison, a small museum and assorted government offices. Just a stone throw away from the fort is the Omakareshwara Temple, a blend of Islamic and Gothic styles. Other must-sees are the tombs of Dodds Cira Raja, his wife and their son Lingaraja, which are oddly Islamic with domes and trellis work. Raja's seat perched atop a hill is where the kings of yore spent many pleasant evenings watching the golden sunset.
In this hill station the cute smiles of people move everyone alike. You will be welcomed with warm smiles on their faces and the fragrant smell of coffee in the hills.

 Biligiri Hills
Ideally tucked between beautiful rivers like Cauvery and Tungabhadra, this idyllic hill station is well protected by deciduous trees and forests on the border. Situated 120 kms from Mysore and 247 kms from Bangalore, in this hill station you can catch sights of exotic wildlife abounding in forests. Right on top of the hill, at an altitude of 5,091 feet above sea level, stands the Biligiriranganaswamy Temple, from which the resort takes its name.

 Kudremukh
The Kundremukh, or Horse Face Range, gets its name from the unique shape of its peak. The brad hills 95 km south-west of Chikmagalur town overlook the Arabian Sea, and are chained to one another with deep valleys and steep precipices. In this hill station you can bask in natural beauty comprising of Sylvan green forests, mighty rivers, grassy slopes, luxuriant cascades and rare orchids. As yet ' undiscovered' by tourist, Kudremukh is a trekker's paradise. Let the wonderland of lush green forests interspersed with rivers, grassy slopes, captivating cascades, rare orchids, caves, ruins and traces of old civilizations amaze you as you trek your way through it. Best season to visit is after the monsoon when everything is lush green and the rivers, streams and waterfalls are their best.

 Chikmagalur
Chikmagalur is situated in a lush valley south of the Babu-Budan range. It derives its name from the headquarters town of Chikmagalur which literally means younger daughter's town. It is believed that it was given as a dowry to the younger daughter of Rukmangada, the legendary chief of Sakrepatna. Hiremagalur, another part of the town, was given to the elder daughter. Certain ancient inscriptions reveal that these two places were originally known as Kiriya-magalu and Piriya-magalu. This hill station has several interesting attractions like, the Kondadarama Temple, the Jamia Mosque and the new St. Joseph's Cathedral.
