The state of Karnataka is known for the glorious traditions and marvels of modern engineering. Karnataka was formerly known as Mysore and it is now among one of the four southern political units. Kannada is the official language of Karnataka but English is widely spoken in the main cities. Location
Karnataka, the 8th largest Indian state in point of area, is located in the southwestern India. Cool blue seas, verdant forests, breathtaking waterfalls, endless stretch of plains and rolling hills that are about to touch the sky- that's what the state of Karnataka has to offer!
Climate
Karnataka has a tropical climate. April and May are the hottest months of the year, with temperature reaching a high of around 35 degrees centigrade. November to February is the winter time. It's not too cold during these months and trip around this time is advisable. Rains arrive in the month of June and continue till September. During June and July, the western coast of the region gets a good amount of rainfall. The rainfall records 1500 mm. September to May, however, is the best time to pay a visit to the state of Karnataka.
Accessibility
The state of Karnatala has five operational airports at Hubli, Mysore, Belgaum, Mangalore, Hassan and Bangalore. There are regular flights from the capital city of Bangalore connecting to the rest of the country. There are international flights from here as well. The state has got a good rail-network as well. There are 6 National highways passing through the state. These highways provide fabulous links with the major towns and cities of the country.
Shopping
Shopping in the cities of Karnataka could lead to getting a good number of handicrafts. The silk sarees of Mysore are very popular. Besides, there are metal ware, wood crafts, rosewood furniture, bell metal items, sandalwood products, jewellery items, gold leaf work etc.
