India, hosts significant biodiversity; India's forest cover ranges from the tropical rainforest of the Andaman Islands, Western Ghats, and Northeast India to the coniferous forest of the Himalaya. Between these extremes lie the sal-dominated moist deciduous forest of eastern India; teak-dominated dry deciduous forest of central and southern India; and the babul-dominated thorn forest of the central Deccan and western Gangetic plain.

 Bandhavgarh National Park
Located in the state of Madhya Pradesh, it is one of most popular national park in India. The park is known for its tiger population and immense variety of flora and fauna. In the year 1993, the park came under the Project Tiger Scheme to preserve the endangered tiger population.

 Ranthambore National Park
Once the hunting ground of the Maharajas of Jaipur, it is known for its tiger reserve. The Ranthambore National Park was once the hunting ground of the Maharajas of Jaipur. It is now know for its tiger reserve. With an area of 392 sq. km, the Ranthambore Tiger Reserve was declared a wildlife sanctuary in 1957 and came under the Project Tiger Scheme in year 1974. Again in 1981, it received the status of National Park. Major wildlife attractions of the park include tigers, leopards, boars and numerous bird species.

 Corbett National Park
The Jim Corbett National Park was set up in 1936 with the help of World Wildlife Fund. It has a wide varieties plant and animal species including the majestic tigers, leopards and elephants. In the year 1973, the park came under the Project Tiger Scheme to preserve the population of tigers. The Corbett National Park is home to a large number of wildlife species including 110 tree species, 50 mammal species and 580 bird species.

 Bharatpur Bird Sanctuary
Now known as the Keoladeo Ghana National Park, it is one of the finest bird sanctuaries in the world. In 1982, the area of the sanctuary was declared as a national park and in 1985, it came under the list of World Heritage Sites of UNESCO.

 Kanha National Park
Kanha National Park is one of the well known tiger reserves in India, where one can spot tigers in the broad day light in their natural habitat. The park consists of a total area of 1945 sq. km. out of which 940 sq-km is its core area. It was declared as a sanctuary in the year 1933 and gained the status as a National Park in the year 1955. The sanctuary came under the Project Tiger Scheme in the year 1976. Its rich flora and fauna attract wildlife enthusiasts from all parts of the world.

 Kaziranga National Park
The Kaziranga National Park is located on the south bank of river Brahmaputra, in the north-eastern state of Assam. It is one of the major wildlife sanctuaries of northeastern India. The park was first declared as a reserve forest in the year 1908 and in 1950 became a wildlife sanctuary. Later in 1974, it was declared a national park. With an area of 430 sq. km. the park is home to the endangered one horned rhinos (Unicorn).

 Periyar Wildlife Sanctuary
The Periyar National Park, situated in God's Own Country, Kerala was formed in the year 1895. This 777 sq. km. long sanctuary came under the Project Tiger Scheme in the year 1972. Though it is popular for its tiger reserve, but the elephants in the park are the major attraction among the tourists. It is also known as the Thekkady Wildlife Sanctuary and is one of the best places in South India for watching wildlife in their natural habitat.
